Following my two recent posts ‘Max Doesn’t Play Well with Idiots‘ and ‘Update on the Idiot Conspiracy‘ I have received at least one email or comment telling me that this is “all drama”, they don’t like it, and they will never come and train with me (even though they like my books!).
Well, that’s fair enough.
The point of my posting today is not to re-open any debate with the morons I encountered, and detailed the exchanges with, in the two linked posts above. It is to make the point that those who were turned away from MVT, due to what they perceived as excessive ‘drama’, are missing the point. Granted, there may have been ‘drama’ all around the internet on gun and liberty forums in the past, but what happened here was not the same.
I’ll tell you why.
I would not post up on my own blog if I felt that I was creating bad publicity for myself. That would be stupid. It was deliberate. I posted because I felt strongly that this is important. The reason I am starting a Forum (and it WILL be different and as it is intended to be) is because I am so pleased and impressed by the quality of the commentariat that regularly participate in blog comments. This is moving beyond ‘Me’ – it isn’t about me. It’s about giving you guys a place to work this stuff out, learn and grow, develop associations, and network. Move from cyberspace to meatspace, tied in with available training from MVT and suitable others.
What I see is a loose internet association, a developing community, of serious sober tactical minded individuals. This needs to be allowed to grow into a community. There are veterans passing knowledge, other subject matter experts, and serious individuals wanting to learn.
This is important why?
It is a new direction away from both tacticool on the tactical side, and crazy on the political side. What?
Tactical: we have all discussed before about the need for real light infantry style combat tactical training. Moving away from the tactical fan-boy forums and training schools. ‘Nuff said here.
Political: what is vital is CREDIBILITY. For FreeFor to gain and maintain credibility it is essential that it is viewed as an association of serious, sober, professional, sane, and rational people. Whether you believe _____ are the bad guys, or ____, does not matter. It does not gain credibility, particularly when dealing with the mainstream who are waking up to encroaching and hardening tyranny. I still read those websites and get turned off. I’m saying to myself: “Really? You believe that! You fukn’ retards!”
So, any FreeFor credibility must move away from hate groups and far out conspiracy theorists. No freakin’ shape-shifting lizards, for funks sake! Even if you actually saw one LOL! It cannot allow itself to be designated as a ‘tin foil hat’ group.
So, due to the quality of you, out there, both the commentariat and the silent majority, I see a way forward. I want to move this forwards as a tactically minded group of serious sober individuals who can discuss tactics and realities.
The other side of this is the extreme individualist, the anarchists, and the related the lone hunter/retreat snipers. Not gonna fly. I mean, you may be alone, but that doesn’t mean you wouldn’t associate and team up if you could, which is different from refusing to, and refusing to get any suitable training. You have to be able to associate with others and fill a role as a leader or follower, at least temporarily or task dependent.
Falling in to a team to fill a role does not mean selling your soul! You are not giving up freedom. And no, I am not talking here about national organization or me being a leader. I am talking about small local groups. You need to be able to identify subject matter experts and leaders in fields, form under them, do the task, and then move apart as necessary. When you are working as a team, you need to have discipline within that team. If you are conducting tactical operations, even more so. No, the tactical team leader does not own your soul, any more so than I do when you are on a CRCD weekend. We get together, train and rehearse, then you are in charge of yourself again.
A boat is a good example: there can only be one captain on a boat. If you join a crew, there will be a skipper, and a first mate. You get on, learn your roles under their direction, sail the boat, and then get off. They don’t own you, but it is important to let them direct you, without dissent, in order to safely sail the boat. Simple concept right?
No: EGO! Ego is the bane of all this, of all teamwork.
What I am seeing here, from you guys, is a potential for a new direction, so long as we don’t let it get derailed. An association of serious tactically minded people, reliable professional people with credibility. ‘FreeFor’ is hamstrung by division, haters, crazy far out conspiracists and extreme individualists. Freedom is about allowing others to act as they wish so long as it does no harm to others. It means the ability to associate and form teams for the common good.
No, I don’t want to lead you. I want to help you grow, and help to train you. That is what I want the direction of this blog, and the coming Forum, to be.
Max Velocity Tactical is on the leading edge of immersive, scenario based, tactical live fire and force on force training. Teaching combat proven, adapted, Special Operations / light infantry tactics.
