On reflection I have decided to change the ‘background check’ policy for those attending my tactical training weekends. Explanation:
I was insisting on some form of background check or suitable I.D: an example being a CCW permit. This was never about making you jump through hoops or invading your privacy, it was about safety of all students in the group and limiting liability to Max Velocity Tactical. However, having jumped through hoops in the past getting background checks I don’t want to ask you to do that before coming on my courses. I do have a CCW permit which would make it easy for me but I realize that some locations have different policies on these permits and some of you may not have them.
You don’t need a permission slip to train with me. I’m not going to insist that you go and get a check from a police station.
I have changed the wording on the info/disclaimer document to read as following (extract):
I.D: Max Velocity Tactical does not insist that you obtain a police background check prior to attending training. The intent is not to violate your privacy. If you do have suitable documentation that demonstrates good standing as a law abiding citizen, such as a concealed carry permit or other I.D. or paperwork to verify that you are not a felon, it will be welcome.
Training Cancellation: Max Velocity Tactical reserves the right to withhold or terminate training at any time, for any reason, including but not limited to: non-trainable safety violations, inability to follow range safety directions, endangering other students or posing a liability risk to Max Velocity Tactical.
My experience so far with those who have attended training has been overwhelmingly positive and everyone has been there for the right reasons. If you roll up with your gang posse, don’t expect to get past the meeting point! If you can make me more comfortable with a CCW permit or similar, please do so.
